About The Bean
The Bean Play Café is a welcoming place where children can explore, families can connect and grown-ups can enjoy a good coffee and a moment to relax.
Our promise—Play • Connect • Relax—shapes everything we do. From imaginative play and creative activities to quality café favourites and family celebrations, we bring together experiences that make a visit enjoyable for the whole family. We want children to feel curious and confident, and parents and caregivers to feel comfortable, included and cared for.
We believe our people will make the difference. Thoughtful spaces and engaging activities set the scene; our team brings The Bean to life. It happens through a warm welcome, remembering a favourite drink, helping a hesitant child join an activity or noticing when a family needs a little extra support.
We are looking for people who take pride in those moments: people who are attentive, dependable, playful and ready to help. Whatever your role, you will contribute to a safe environment, thoughtful service and a business that families want to return to.
At The Bean, everyone hosts, everyone sells and everyone supports. That means making people feel welcome, recommending experiences they will enjoy and helping colleagues deliver on our promise—with safety and service always coming first.
Your role
Joining The Bean means helping build something from the beginning. As part of our pioneering team, you will help shape our culture, bring ideas to life and create the experiences that families associate with The Bean.
Every team member contributes to our success and plays an active part in growing our community. We are looking for outgoing, approachable people who enjoy starting conversations, connecting with families and making others feel included. You should be willing to take initiative, support colleagues and represent The Bean with confidence and enthusiasm.
Your role will also include opportunities to take The Bean beyond the café through external events, pop-ups, private celebrations and community activities. Depending on your role and training, you may help set up an event, welcome guests, serve café favourites, promote our experiences or lead entertainment.
Working with the founders and management team, you will have a voice in how we improve and grow. As the business expands, there will be opportunities to develop new skills and take on greater responsibility, based on your contribution, readiness and business needs.
What you will do
- Build connections with guests, learn their preferences and help turn first-time visitors into regular members of The Bean community.
- Contribute ideas for café products, service improvements and promotions that encourage repeat visits.
- Support external events and pop-ups by preparing and serving café favourites, welcoming guests and representing The Bean.
- Bring an outgoing, proactive approach to engaging families and supporting the wider team.
- Prepare drinks to approved recipes, portion standards and presentation; dial in and check equipment within training.
- Confirm orders, dietary questions and allergen information using the approved reference; never guess or promise an allergen-free product.
- Maintain safe food handling, cleaning, replenishment and opening and closing records; isolate faulty equipment and report it.
- Coordinate order sequencing and handover with the kitchen and floor team; keep hot drinks away from child traffic and communicate delays.
- Welcome families, deliver orders, reset seating, help with approved snack assembly and assist POS once trained.
- Recommend a suitable drink size, pastry or family snack; explain approved play and café combinations; pass party or membership interest to the sales host and record attribution where possible.
What you bring
- Practical café skills: Experience preparing espresso-based drinks, following recipes and maintaining quality, hygiene and presentation during busy service.
- An outgoing hosting style: You enjoy starting conversations, remembering guests’ preferences and helping families feel welcome.
- Commercial awareness: You can recommend drinks, food and relevant Bean experiences naturally, based on what guests will enjoy.
- Enthusiasm for community building: You understand how personal connections and thoughtful service turn first-time visitors into regular guests.
- Readiness for events and pop-ups: You are willing to represent The Bean outside the café, helping with setup, beverage service, guest engagement and pack-down.
- Flexibility and teamwork: You take pride in your primary station and willingly support table service, reception and other duties within your training.
- Initiative and ownership: You notice what needs attention, suggest improvements and follow through without waiting to be asked.
- A pioneering mindset: You are excited to help establish our café standards, contribute ideas and develop your skills as The Bean expands.
- Experience with mobile coffee service, catering or external events is an advantage.
