About The Bean

The Bean Play Café is a welcoming place where children can explore, families can connect and grown-ups can enjoy a good coffee and a moment to relax.

Our promise—Play • Connect • Relax—shapes everything we do. From imaginative play and creative activities to quality café favourites and family celebrations, we bring together experiences that make a visit enjoyable for the whole family. We want children to feel curious and confident, and parents and caregivers to feel comfortable, included and cared for.

We believe our people will make the difference. Thoughtful spaces and engaging activities set the scene; our team brings The Bean to life. It happens through a warm welcome, remembering a favourite drink, helping a hesitant child join an activity or noticing when a family needs a little extra support.

We are looking for people who take pride in those moments: people who are attentive, dependable, playful and ready to help. Whatever your role, you will contribute to a safe environment, thoughtful service and a business that families want to return to.

At The Bean, everyone hosts, everyone sells and everyone supports. That means making people feel welcome, recommending experiences they will enjoy and helping colleagues deliver on our promise—with safety and service always coming first.

Your role

Joining The Bean means helping build something from the beginning. As part of our pioneering team, you will help shape our culture, bring ideas to life and create the experiences that families associate with The Bean.

Every team member contributes to our success and plays an active part in growing our community. We are looking for outgoing, approachable people who enjoy starting conversations, connecting with families and making others feel included. You should be willing to take initiative, support colleagues and represent The Bean with confidence and enthusiasm.

Your role will also include opportunities to take The Bean beyond the café through external events, pop-ups, private celebrations and community activities. Depending on your role and training, you may help set up an event, welcome guests, serve café favourites, promote our experiences or lead entertainment.

Working with the founders and management team, you will have a voice in how we improve and grow. As the business expands, there will be opportunities to develop new skills and take on greater responsibility, based on your contribution, readiness and business needs.

What you will do

  • Help grow The Bean community by building relationships with families, following up thoughtfully and encouraging repeat visits.
  • Identify opportunities for parties, group visits, partnerships and external events through everyday guest conversations.
  • Represent The Bean at pop-ups and community events, welcoming visitors, explaining our experiences and capturing relevant enquiries.
  • Share guest insights and commercial ideas with the Café Manager and founders.
  • Bring an outgoing, confident approach to starting conversations and turning interest into lasting guest relationships.
  • Welcome families, understand needs and explain play rules, sessions, caregiver responsibilities and available options.
  • Process admissions, payments, membership validation and authorised discounts accurately; coordinate capacity with entertainment.
  • Manage enquiries, party and group leads, follow-ups and booking records; confirm approved terms and hand over delivery details.
  • Handle first-line feedback, queue communication and guest information carefully; escalate complaints or collection concerns.
  • Assist table service, resets, café order handovers and simple activity setup after training. Cover play only after sign-off and accepted relief at reception; never sell capacity independently of the live availability check.
  • Own personal enquiry follow-up and conversion for memberships, workshops, parties and groups. Explain total price, inclusions, availability and conditions, obtain permission for follow-up and avoid unnecessary child data collection.

What you bring

  • An outgoing, welcoming personality: You enjoy approaching people, starting conversations and helping families feel comfortable from their first interaction.
  • Guest service and sales skills: Experience in reception, hospitality, retail or sales, with the ability to understand needs and recommend suitable options.
  • A relationship-building mindset: You follow up thoughtfully, remember guest preferences and help turn enquiries and first visits into lasting connections with The Bean.
  • Commercial initiative: You recognise opportunities for memberships, parties, group visits, partnerships and external events, and take action to develop them.
  • Confidence representing The Bean: You are willing to attend pop-ups and community events, explain our experiences and generate relevant enquiries.
  • Organisation and follow-through: You maintain accurate bookings, payments and enquiry records, meet follow-up commitments and give operations complete handovers.
  • Integrity and sound judgement: You explain prices and conditions clearly, protect guest information and check capacity before making promises.
  • Flexibility and team spirit: You are willing to support café service, event preparation and other trained duties while keeping reception responsibilities covered.
  • A pioneering mindset: You want to contribute guest insights, help establish our sales and service approach and develop your responsibilities as the business grows.
  • Experience selling memberships, celebrations, events or group packages is an advantage.
